I am testing posting this through the app instead of on my computer so let’s see how it goes. When I am on the trip I will have to do all my postings from within the app so I’m hoping that it uploads properly and still includes all the pictures.
Edit: I am going back through my posts and adding links as it's harder to do that on my phone and people want more information!
Last Saturday, Jayson and I hiked Crowbar lake again. He is one of the ones I met on the big group hike last weekend. He actually moved here from Montreal and hasn't gotten to do as much exploring as he'd like. While we were here last week, we saw this beautiful spot on the lake and thought it would make a perfect spot to camp. This time we did the whole trail which was an extra loop from the time before. And then on the way back out we stopped at the campsite we'd scoped out before. I like doing a day hike at a place before camping there so I know of places to camp. However, I'm going to lose this method when I do the ECT so I really need to practice spotting campsites on trails.

I do still find this trail more challenging than others around here so it was good to practice it again with my pack. It is also good for me to practice setting up the hammock on different trails and different locations. I don't want to get comfortable setting it up in one spot and then not be comfortable if the trees are wider or further apart. Thankfully Dad made me a few extra straps for the hammock so I will have a lot of flexibility in where I can hang it. It came with one set of straps that are best for a certain distance and size of tree. He made me some longer ones so that if the trees are really wide or far apart I can still set it up easily.

A lot of people I have talked to seem totally won over to the hammock after they've tried it, and say they can’t imagine going back to a tent. However, I don’t think that’s me. I do sleep all right in it but I miss having space. I miss being able to sit up. I miss having my pack right there with me. I miss rolling all over the place in my sleep. I'm not overly shy and often get changed outside the tent anyways since there's more space but I do wonder what I'll do when it's raining on the ECT. It's Newfoundland so I know I'm going to have rain at some point.
Have you slept in a Hammock and what are your thoughts on it?
I got it from a friend but I think you can get them online.
Where did you buy yours?
Have you tried a Klymit sleeping pad? I feel like I’m in bed with that one.
I find the hammock so much better for my back. Osteoarthritis in my lower joint. I agree, it is nice to have space, bring some gear in, be able to sit up, double up in a pinch; but the hammock is so kind and comfortable for my back....
I will typically hang all my food/scented items, especially if I’m alone. My pack, if I’m with people I typically leave under my hammock. But I will get into the habit of hanging it so the mice and little critters can’t chew it.
