Thailand Budget

Whether you're preparing for the trip of a lifetime, backpacking with friends, or just on a short vacation, read this budget breakdown to plan for your trip to Thailand.

20 Days

(December 16 - January 6

6 Cities Stayed in

(Bangkok, Krabi, Koh Phagnan, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai)

201CAD per day

*Please note all costs are the total for two adults and one baby.

Transportation: 1589CAD

Our transportation costs were quite high for Thailand as we stayed in 6 different cities, with three of them being islands. Our costs include flights, ferries, the metro in Bangkok, lots of Grab and of course tuk tuks.

Food & Drinks: 694CAD

Heading into this trip, I was most excited for the food in Thailand. While it didn't quite live up to my expectations (I found Vietnam & Indonesia better), I made sure to sample as much as I could. Some of my favourites that I recommend you try are: green papaya salad, mango sticky rice, pad thai at a night market, shrimp dumplings and coconut pudding.

Accommodations: 892CAD

Averaging less than 50CAD a night, affordable accommodations in Thailand are easy to find even travelling with a baby. We often had a pool or were beach front, if not then it was usually only a short walk away.

Attractions & Activities: 794CAD

The majority of our spending on activities was for boat tours while on the islands. They often included a meal, all park entrance fees, kayaks, and snorkeling gear if you need it.

Extras: 44CAD

Since none of us needed to get visas to enter Thailand, our extra costs were low. This included screen protectors for our phones, waterproof cases for all our boat tours, laundry and a few souvenirs.

Must See/Do:

  • Blue Temple

  • Elephant Sanctuary

  • Launch lanterns

  • Explore the markets

  • Krabi sunset boat tour
