Parc national de Plaisance

Updated: Sep 27, 2021

Last Sunday was Shane's birthday so it was only Leslie and I who ventured out for a hike. We picked Parc de Plaisance as it was another SEPAQ and not too far from the city. It was actually way closer than I first thought it was. When I looked at it on the map, all I saw was that it was close to Ottawa but it was less than an hour and a half away.

This was also Thor Adventurer II's first hike!

We decided to do the longest trail, a loop of the whole parc as there was supposed to be no elevation. We started off along a river and saw a groundhog run across the trail. We then ended up on a road walk which wasn't so fun but passed by lots of farms.

Once we were back on the trail, we passed through the local fishing spot. There were more people fishing on this lake than we had seen all morning. We also so a beaver swimming around!

We stopped by a little yurt for lunch since there were some nice chairs, a bathroom and sunshine. While lunching, we saw this little guy popping his head around from under the porch. He seemed super curious about us and sat and watched us for quite some time before going on his way.

The whole trail had a lot of sign of beavers, I was surprised we only saw the one. There were a lot of large dams and freshly chewed trees.

We came across a little detour and couldn't help but take it since it looked so cute. It proved well worth it since it took us to a boardwalk over the marsh. We saw a lot more signs of beavers here as well as fish, frogs and turtles! I really want to come back here and canoe as I am sure we will see much more.

We were quite pleasantly surprised by this parc, we saw more animals here than the rest combined. We're definitely going to come back and rent something to paddle on and hopefully see even more. This was also my sixth SEPAQ, there are 27 although 3 are so far north I won't make it to them. We are well into planning the rest of our summer SEPAQ adventures and my annual pass has already paid for itself!
