Well I made it to Montreal! It still doesn’t really feel real. I had kind of been planning to come here for November 1 just to beat the snow but then I got a job offer and it lined up perfectly.

I left my friends place in the valley at a little after 4 AM on Sunday November 1. I really wanted to drive on the familiar roads in the dark and hopefully arrive in Montreal with some daylight. The drive was much easier than I thought it was going to be, I guess all the driving I’ve been doing lately paid off. I started to get really tired around 6 AM and pulled into an abandoned gas station and set an alarm for 20 minutes and had a power nap. That really seem to perk me up and last all day. I didn’t really start to lose steam until the last hour and a half.

I made it to Montreal a little after four, I gained two hours with the time change and time zone change. I unpacked pretty much my whole car and then got to work unpacking into my room. It really didn't take too long as I only brought a car worth of belongings. I went to bed pretty early the first night since the day had been such an emotional roller coaster.

I had planned on writing this post my first night here but couldn't find the words. I revisited it after I'd been here a week but still struggled.

I am so happy to be here. I love my job. I'm back into the jewellery world which I really enjoy. I'm handling the Client Service department which is the perfect job for me, and it was created for me. I know that moving here, especially for this job, was the best move for me.

On the other hand, it's very lonely. The only person I knew before I moved here was my boss, and he was a former colleague. The lockdown from coronavirus had an impact on my friendships, and then going to Newfoundland for a month put some more distance in. I have a lot of friends who are messaging me and checking in, but there's a lot who aren't. I've joined some groups and I want to get out and socialize but Montreal is in much worse shape than Halifax was.

I tried to put a lot of my focus and energy into the Blue Nose last weekend (you can still donate to the SPCA through my run!) and I'm hoping to get out and explore more this weekend.
