Parc National d'Oka

Updated: Sep 27, 2021

This weekend it was just Leslie and I who met up for a hike. We’ve told Shane that he’s not allowed to chicken out of the cold this winter so he will still be joining us. We have been picking a new trail every weekend to try to get out and explore new places. This weekend we picked parc oka and the summit trail. However, the signs entering the parc were a little confusing and we ended up at the opposite end of the parc from that trail. We decided just to explore where we were and walked one end of the lake to the other. We saw a lot of people on fat bikes, snow shoes and skis. We even saw people out on the ice with kites!

I wasn't expecting the parc to be so popular, especially with such a variety of activities! I think it's usually a campground so there were a lot of fire pits and picnic tables. We even saw some people having fires so we might bring some wood next time for a hot lunch. I have realized that I really shouldn’t go hiking around here without bird seeds. We saw an area with a lot of people and realized they were feeding the birds! We had to stop of course, thankfully Leslie had brought a plain trail mix. The birds here were significantly more friendly, they kept landing on our head, shoulders and along our arms. It was hard to leave them.

It was a super easy trail and didn’t take us too long to complete. It's really great to see such well maintained multi purpose trails like in the picture below. We popped into both offices before leaving to find out how renting equipment works and hope to go back to try fat biking and skiing.
